The Art Centre Korenbeurs Schiedam Foundation aims to revitalize the historic Korenbeurs landmark by transforming the iconic building into a center for cultural exchange. This old commodity trading center, which was renovated in 2004, has been repurposed and will serve as a blank canvas for events such as art exhibitions, concerts, symposiums, book presentations and debates.

The first chairman and art collector Ron Klein Breteler invited us ‘4 curators’ to assemble a contemporary art exhibition featuring the work of more than 30 national and international artists. The upcoming summer exhibition ‘4 the Korenbeurs Schiedam’, is the premier event for the Foundation to explore what works in the space. “We do not operate from a defined idea, but from an expansion model,” Breteler said, “That’s why we are open to ideas for the Korenbeurs Schiedam. The idea is to finance the operations from business activities and small scale events that suit the artistic atmosphere. We are looking for productive interaction between culture and arts, interaction of creativity and entrepreneurship for all parties involved. This also fits the vision of the Schiedam Municipality to specifically revitalize the old town and its ports into a cente of lively activities and attractive place for people, whether or not residents of Schiedam”.
